Peaceful Style Boutique opened its doors on September 30th, 2018. Two friends and neighbors, Chris Slavens and Linda Mowbray, decided to make their dreams come true! We found our perfect location in a neighborhood strip mall which included a coffee shop, fro-yo, and nail salon, making it a convenient stop during the day. Our goal was to offer Bettendorf and the whole Quad-Cities a new trendy, fashion-forward boutique. Our other main focus was to have affordable prices (our range is $20-$80). Our tagline was creative: “find your peace…” Peace has multiple meanings of finding your favorite “piece” of fashion at a very peaceful price! Retail therapy doesn’t get any better than that!
Linda Mowbray – Co-Owner/Buyer
Hi! My name is Linda, and I am one of the proud owners of Peaceful Style Boutique. It’s hard to believe we have celebrated our 1st year of business, and what an AMAZING year it has been! Let me tell you a little bit about myself first!
I grew up in Hinckley, Illinois, a small town about 55 miles west of Chicago, and am the daughter of Bob and Marlene Thorp. I am the youngest of 4, and never in a million years had I thought would be where I am today! I used to say I would “never move away.” (More on that later!) I attended Western Illinois University, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fashion Merchandising and a minor in Business. I’ve been married to my college sweetheart Kevin for 32 years, and we have 4 AMAZING children: Alexa, 24; Olivia, 22; Sam, 19; and Gabby, 16, not to mention our four-legged furry kids, Louis & Rosie. I enjoy sports, decorating, boating, spending time with my family and of course, SHOPPING!
After graduating from college together, Kevin and I moved 14 times. YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT!!! We’ve lived in 12 different cities in 7 different states. After being a Stay-At-Home Mom for 24 years, (otherwise known as CEO of the Household, Housekeeper, Personal Chef, Taxi Driver, Errand Runner, Laundry Machine Operator, Boo-Boo Fixer, Kiss & Hugs Expert – well, you get the picture,) I was offered the opportunity to be a Co-Owner and Buyer of PSB with Chris, my BFF AND neighbor (the 1st time I lived here.) It was an offer I couldn’t refuse! (THANK YOU CHRIS!) Finally, my dreams would become a reality!!!!!
XOXO
Chris Slavens – Co-Owner/Buyer
Hi! I’m Chris, one of the blessed owners of PSB. I grew up in the Quad-Cities and am married to my high school sweetheart (Sam) and biggest cheerleader! We have 3 active boys: Max, 19; Ben, 22; and Nick, 24, and we love following and traveling to watch them play college sports. I’ve always loved fashion and finding unique pieces at good prices! Whenever I’d visit family in Memphis, the boutique scene intrigued me and looked so fun, social and rewarding. With my youngest son being a senior in high school, this was my time to go for it! Sam encouraged me at every step! I opened a child care center and preschool in Bettendorf (1997), The Red Apple, so I knew the process and hard work ahead. That’s when I told Linda a crazy idea of opening a boutique… and she was in! We looked for months for the perfect location and found it, (next to my favorite coffee shop and nail salon!)
